Microlaryngoscopy is performed while the patient is under general anesthesia. The two most essential tool sets are used during the surgery, i.e., the operative microscope and microlaryngeal dissection instruments. It is done to evaluate and remove various lesions of the vocal folds, including cancer, cysts, polyps, papilloma, and Reinke’s edema.
Microlaryngoscopic Surgery for Vocal Cord Lesions:
Microlaryngoscopy, also known as microscopic laryngeal surgery, is a surgical procedure carried out on vocal folds.
Things to do during recovery:
- Avoid raising voice after the surgery for the first few days
- Drink plenty of fluids and avoid caffeinated or alcoholic drinks
- Do not smoke
- Avoid heavy lifting, pushing or pulling activities in the gym
- Speak less often than usual
- Do not cough, clear throat, laugh loudly, whisper, sing or raise voice
Following are the indications for immediate medical care post-surgery:
- Breathlessness
- Oral bleeding
- Difficulty in swallowing
